About GrrrlBands
A Space for Women & Non-Binary Adults in Carrboro NC and surrounding areas to Create, Collaborate & Make Music
Who We Are
GrrrlBands is a community-driven music collective in Carrboro NC that provides women and non-binary adults with a space to learn, create, and perform. Inspired by the Riot Grrrl movement, we believe in the power of music as a tool for self-expression, collaboration, and change.
What We Do
GrrrlBands brings women and non-binary adults together to make music, build confidence, and find community — no matter your experience level.
Band Programs
Our core program runs in 8-week sessions. Participants are placed into bands, rehearse weekly with guidance, and work toward a live showcase at a local venue. These showcases are a celebration of growth, collaboration, and community — not perfection.
Each session includes:
-
Weekly band practices in a supportive, low-pressure environment
-
Guidance from experienced local musicians
-
Collaboration, skill-building, and confidence-building
-
A live performance at a local music venue
Music Lessons
We also offer private and small-group lessons for folks who want extra support or are brand new to their instrument. Lessons are available for beginners and experienced musicians alike and can be a great way to get more comfortable before or during a band session.
Why We Exist
Music spaces have historically been male-dominated—we’re here to help change that. GrrrlBands is all about creating an inclusive space where women and non-binary adults can take center stage, find their voice, and rock out without barriers.
